Bionicle MOC - Cassandra by Alex-Darkrai Bionicle MOC - Cassandra by Alex-Darkrai
This MOC has been in progress for about half a year. An on-off work on the rare weekends from university.

I showed WIPs of this to some friends and tried improve the design according to their advice.

Creators Note:
Especially the actual building process gave a me a lot of trouple. I often had to exchange core parts of this MOC for different ones in order to get the desired connection ways to add limbs and armor in the desired way. By now, I can't remember the basic construction of this anymore, it was just a process of adding more and more layers of parts in order to design the anatomy and shapes.
I'm now damn satisfied with the outcome! The 2-shaped spine of her anatomy is pretty cool, in my opinion and I'm very happy with part use. All those different kind of tan colored parts give this MOC the complexity I wanted and the simple color scheme supports that effect even more in my opinion.
I like the arms, they're simple, but I'm sure that some of you won't like them. I'm not sure about them either, but they fit the MOC quite good, in my opinion.

The Creation:
Cassandra is a priestess of the sand tribe and quite skilled in controlling Zesk and Vorox however she wants. Her chants my sound random or imprecise to normal listeners, but they give her the abilities to control the sand around her in large quantities. Moving through sand like swimming through water or moving whole dunes are just examples for her high skills.

I love your torso and your legs, they're superb. The head seems a little small to me though. Anyways, props to you, this looks freakin' great, i wish i had that many tan parts... Favorite colour for mocs, least abundant...

I'm thankful to my younger self for wishing for those star wars technic sets for chrismas when I was younger xD
Was the only way to get my hands on so many tan pieces :)

I love the MOC and concept behind it! Kind of a disciple of the Element Lord?

For some reason, i sort of got the feeling that she could be inspired by Nidhiki.

Well, he wasn't realy the inspiration ^^;
I really like him, but in this case I just wanted to create something diffenrent from the usual two legged creatures. And when I had that head and torso done it just looked perfect for a spider-like creature xD

True. Also, i have to ask. Is the legs capable of folding in just like on Nidhiki when he switches to flight mode or is this purely a species stuck to the ground?

Well that would have been a little difficult, as the body has quite a little bit of weight, so I had need for the actuators used on the frontal and back legs to support the weight.
So yes, she is stuck to the ground :)
But that's okay, as she can, literally, swim right through it :3

Swim? Now that's a interesting skill to have. Maybe if you got a lot of sand colored and brown bricks and palced them loosely in a big, flat tray with raised edges, you could make a short stop motion video of her "swimming" through the ground.

Well yeah that is possible, but it's not the kind of stuff I do xD
If I had a lot of free time, it'd be a possibility, but I'm currently studying for my masters degree in architecture so it's unlikely that I can find the time to do anything with my MOCs xD

This thing looks like an alien from Duke Nukem. I cant name a SINGLE time I could ever use that description for a moc. Awesome. The color scheme fits well and the head was a really nice fit for him. All I dont like consists of the fact that his posability seems limited and his arms look a little dinky. I would add some more armor onto them.

That awkward moment when I find that I already commented on the Duke Nukem reference below O3o

Yeah, I thought the same when I read this second Nuke Dukem comment xD

A lot of people pointed the arms out, but I do like them, more armor would just make them look more bulky, but I wanted them to look more fragile and segmented like an insect.
Meh, maybe I'm gonna rework them a little, I'm gonna have some more time for MOCing coming up and a new background sheet for taking pictures :3

Cassandra is a female name, even in our world xD
But I can understand how you think, I'm not really trying to show any gender specific details here ;)

Why should I?
I mostly build alien MOCs ... and bionicles are robots to begin with. To things that don't need a gender. There's not really any need for a gender when it comes to MOCs, I think.

Lego doesn't make any brown titans? Challenge accepted. You did a great job with this. You captured the feel of an insect really well, which isn't easy to do even for Lego itself (remember the Bohrok?). There's a lot of creative piece usage that's really clever; I especially liked the combination of the tan claws with the Great Rode.

Yeah working with tan is different from working with other colors, because lego never made bionicle set with tan as main color, although they mad two lego technic star wars sets with tan as main color xD [link] [link] I got both when I was young ^^

While I'm glad you put this out to be seen better. I am highly disappointed. Those arms are a total copout for this MOC. The body is so well done, and the leg's simplicity make sense, but those arms in my opinion are terrible. You were right when you said some of us might not like them. I think they're very unbecoming of your MOCing style. By that same token, I understand wanting to finally be done with a MOC so you use what works..

Of course I don't mean to doubt your opinion. It's just that it's not mine. I don't see your point yet for saying they don't fit the MOC or my whole style.
And I also feel a little bit misunderstood because you say that I 'just finally wanted to be done with the MOC', I did think a lot about the arms and took my time and the way they're now was just my favorite solution. Excluding ball joint connections, working with a pin connection supportted by a thornax launcher half on the elbow and a four liftarm/rotation point construction on hand works quite well and keeps a simple tan color scheme on the lower arms. My goal was as well to exclude the possibility of a visible shoulder and thus make the body shape flow into the arms. I also love the simplicity of the lower arms which only have the texture and transparency of this part [link] The shape and texture of this part [link] on the lower arms also works quite well for the insectoid look which I wanted to achieve, because it looks like the parts of an exoskeleton for me.
But as mntioned, that's just my opinion on my work.
